International Workshop on Improving Green Consumption through Enhanced Energy Management and Energy Savings

As the side meeting of the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8), the international workshop was held on June 1 on stimulating green consumption through enhanced energy management and energy savings to share progress and experience in policies, standards and technologies of energy management and discuss the effective pathway for continuous improvement of energy efficiency.

 

 

 The workshop was directed by NDRC and SAC, organized by CNIS and sponsored by ENN Group. Centering on national and foreign progress of energy management, the event was attended by over 400 participants, including Wang Shancheng Deputy Director-General of Department of Resource and Environmental Protection, NDRC, Guo Hui, SAC Vice-Administrator, Ma Lincong, CNIS President, Roland Risser, Chair of ISO/TC 301 and Kirsi Silander from ISO Central Secretariat.

Energy saving and energy efficiency improvement and addressing energy environment and climate change are the common wish and responsibility of international community, in which enhanced international cooperation plays an important role in cooperation mechanism, innovative cooperation patterns, enhanced interconnectivity in energy standards and promoting technical transformation and sharing, Wang Shancheng said.

Energy saving standards are the foundation of national energy saving policy, and the technical basis and strong guarantee for improving economic indicator benefits and promoting green consumption, Guo Hui said. China will carry out standardization work in the following aspects: enhancing energy saving standardization work, highlighting the role of standards and related standards development work; promoting the effective implementation of energy saving standards and strengthening the connection between standards and policies; improving bilateral and multilateral international cooperation.

 

 

Since 1980s, CNIS has begun the research work on energy saving standardization, which has made positive contribution to supporting the government, serving the society, establishing resource-saving and environment-friendly society and achieving energy saving and emission reduction goal, Ma Lincong said. Next step, CNIS will better support national key energy saving policies, form effective model for standards implementation and enhance domestic and international exchanges.

The priorities and standards development of ISO/TC 301 on energy management and energy savings as well as the global application of ISO 50001 were introduced respectively by Roland Risser and Kirsi Silander.

During the event, Ma Lincong announced the Award of Excellent Energy Management Enterprise given to 8 domestic enterprises such as China Heavy Automobile Group Co.,Ltd. It is the first time for China to carry out national level selection of excellent energy management cases, the winners have a chance to compete in the CEM Global Energy Management Leadership Award.

 

 

Dai Yande from NDRC, Graziella Siciliano from CEM/EMWG, Chad Gallinat from CEM/SEAD, Lin Ling from CNIS, Jiang Nanqing from UNEP and other representatives made speeches on various topics, such as China's policy framework for energy efficiency and conservation, global energy management progress, energy conservation standardization and pilot, super-efficient equipment and appliance deployment.

As the main agenda for ISO/TC 301 plenary meeting, the event has provided a solid foundation for national energy saving and management work, enhancing the technical exchanges between domestic and foreign experts and supporting the implementation of energy efficiency improvement actions in China from 2016 to 2020.
