ANSI and SAC seminar on association standards

ANSI-SAC Seminar on Association Standards Cooperation and Development was held in Hangzhou on December 6, 2017, discussing the future development of association standards.

The progress of association standardization in China in recent three years was summarized by SAC Vice-Administrator Yin Minghan. Since the plan for furthering standardization reforms issued in March 2015, SAC has taken measures to promote association standards development and made considerable achievements, including the release of the guideline for cultivating and developing association standards and GB/T 20004.1-2016, Association standards—Part 1: Guidelines for good practice, and the construction of the National Association Standards Information Platform.

ANSI pays close attention to China’s standardization reform and its effect on Sino-US trade and business cooperation, said Joseph Tretler, Vice President of ANSI (international policy). He also introduced a valuable experience in the US by adopting a system of good practices and encouraging openness, transparency and independence in good practice evaluation.

Yuan Xiaopeng, Director of Materials Division of Industrial Standards Department I of SAC, and Wang Yiyi, Director of Sub-institute of Standardization Theory and Strategy of CNIS, introduced the history, current status, latest progress and characteristics of China’s association standardization in their keynote speeches.

Nydia Ngiow, Program Manager of International Development Department of ANSI, and Claire Ramspeck, Managing Director of Standards Development in ASME, made speeches on due process requirements for American national standards and ANSI-accredited standards developing organizations and the US system. Other experts from the two sides introduced the innovation and practices of association standards in relevant sectors.

The event has attracted over 120 representatives sharing insightful views and latest research findings and reviewing the typical cases in Sino-US cooperation on standardization, which facilitates the promotion of association standardization work in China.
