Recently, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) announced the recipients of the IEC 1906 Award. A total of 44 Chinese experts were honored with this prize, and the number of winners reached a record high. This showcases China’s technical strength and growing global influence in the field of international electrotechnical standardization.

Established in 2004, the IEC 1906 Award is an annual award to recognize experts who have made outstanding contributions to the development of IEC international standards, technical activities, and conformity assessment work. The award indicates the depth of participation and level of contribution of experts from various countries within the IEC technical system.

A total of 231 experts from 26 countries worldwide received this award in 2026, with Chinese winners accounting for 19% of the total. The 44 Chinese experts come from 33 different fields, which are highly aligned with the strategic directions of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. The fields include new power systems and new energy, traditional industries, digital intelligence and information technology,and new materials. Additionally, experts from the future-oriented fields also won the award, which include hydrogen energy fuel cells and renewable energy conformity assessment.

This achievement not only represents IEC’s high recognition of the technical contributions of Chinese experts, but also demonstrates China’s strategic layout, comprehensive strength, and sustained contributions in the field of international electrotechnical standardization. China will continue to engage in international standards governance, introduce Chinese solutions to global partners, and contribute to the high-quality development of global electrotechnical technology.
