The 21st International Standards Olympiad was successfully held in South Korea on August 12-14. The China Association for Standardization (CAS), serving as the organizer in China, led four outstanding teams to compete in the event.

The team from Beijing No. 80 High School won the Gold Prize in the middle school category. Two teams from the Hangzhou Foreign Languages School won Silver Awards in the middle school and high school categories respectively The team from the Beijing 101 High School received the IEC Special Award. These achievements fully highlight the standardization competency of Chinese youth and the notable progress China has made in youth standardization education.

The Olympiad was joined by 105 students from 35 middle and high school teams representing 11 countries, including China, Australia, Peru, Ecuador, South Korea, Kenya, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia. The subject of this year’s Olympiad is “Wearable electronic devices—Performance test methods for smart eyeglasses.” Participants need to draft international standards and prepare presentations as required by the competition, with reference to the international standard templates.

The competition comprehensively evaluated each team’s foundational knowledge of standardization, logical reasoning abilities, and teamwork skills, especially their capacity to apply standardization expertise to solve real-world problems. Additionally, meetings and cultural exchange activities were held to facilitate communication among youth from different countries and foster mutual understanding and friendship.

The International Standards Olympiad is an international competition launched in 2006 by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and the Korean Standards Association (KSA). Under the guidance of SAMR (SAC), CAS has continuously organized Chinese teams to participate in this competition since 2018, winning many awards.
