IEC/IEEE 61007-389:2026, Transformers and inductors for use in electronic and telecommunication equipment—Part 389: Measuring methods and test procedures, was officially released recently, which was led by Chinese experts and jointly developed by experts from the U.S., Germany, France, Japan, Italy, and other countries. It is the unified technical specification for testing electronic communication magnetic components worldwide.
The standard precisely aligns with the development demands of cutting-edge industries such as 5G and AI server power supplies, and new energy power conversion. It specifies key test methods including dynamic capacitance, thermocouple temperature rise, incremental inductance, differential inductance, energy inductance, and amplitude inductance measurements, as well as more than ten test procedures such as high-frequency operating condition losses and AC resistance. IEC/IEEE 61007-389:2026 provides a unified and authoritative international technical benchmark for the R&D design, performance testing, and quality assessment of magnetic components worldwide.
Previously, there were discrepancies in the technical requirements of IEC and IEEE standards, making test results difficult to be mutually recognized, which turned out to be substantial technical barriers to trade. The new standard realizes the integration and mutual recognition between the two major technical systems of Europe/Asia and North America, establishing a globally unified testing benchmark. It will help reduce redundant testing and compliance costs for companies around the globe, and break down technical barriers in the global supply chain for magnetic components.
